Bringing Together Fashion Stakeholders

In our efforts to shape the future of fashion in Maryland, MAFCO hosted its first private stakeholder dinner to discuss the establishment of the council and what it stands for. We invited key figures in the fashion and creative industries, including Crystal Mayanja of Color Coded Style, Aya Dixon of Bmore Art, Bridgett Artiste, Founder of Sustainable, Terrance Frasier, City of Gods, and many more inspiring professionals and thought leaders.

This dinner was an opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, discuss our vision for the region’s fashion industry, and brainstorm ways to work together to build a more sustainable, diverse, and innovative fashion community in the Mid-Atlantic. The dialogue was productive, and we look forward to more collaborations and partnerships that will support and amplify the work of fashion creatives in our region.

What We Stand For: Establishing and Organizing the Fashion Community in the Mid-Atlantic Region

At the Mid-Atlantic Fashion Council (MAFCO), our mission is to nurture and elevate the fashion industry within the Mid-Atlantic region, especially in Maryland. We believe that creating a well-organized, cohesive fashion community is key to the region’s growth and success. Here’s what we stand for:

Economic Impact of Fashion Weeks

By establishing Maryland as a fashion hub, MAFCO aims to stimulate local economic growth, create jobs, and provide a platform for global recognition. Fashion weeks are not just glamorous events—they are vital economic engines that drive substantial revenue and attract tourism, retail business, and media exposure. With the right support and infrastructure, Maryland can mirror this success and generate significant economic benefits for the state.

1. Advocacy for Legislation:

We are committed to promoting policies that support the sustainable growth of the fashion industry in Maryland. From tax incentives for local designers to green manufacturing practices, we work tirelessly to ensure that legislation aligns with the future of the fashion world. Our advocacy efforts aim to build a regulatory framework that encourages innovation and fosters a thriving, sustainable fashion ecosystem.

2. Highlighting and Developing Professionals:

One of our key focuses is on the recognition and development of professionals in the fashion industry. Whether it’s through networking events, educational initiatives, or mentorship programs, MAFCO is dedicated to supporting the growth of designers, stylists, marketers, and other industry professionals. We believe that by fostering talent and providing the right opportunities, we can elevate Maryland’s role in the fashion world.

3. Maryland as a Fashion Hub:

We envision Maryland as a national center for fashion jobs, not only in design but also in technology, manufacturing, and sustainability. By positioning the state as a leader in fashion innovation and commerce, MAFCO is helping to attract fashion-related businesses and professionals, contributing to the state’s economy and creating new job opportunities in this creative sector. Maryland has the infrastructure, the talent, and the spirit to be a fashion powerhouse.

4. Building a Viable Ecosystem:

At MAFCO, we’re focused on building a robust ecosystem that supports all facets of the fashion industry. From independent artists to established businesses, and from non-profits to startups, we believe in providing support at every stage of the business lifecycle. Whether it’s through access to funding, collaboration with other creatives, or offering a platform for emerging voices, we are working to create an environment where fashion can thrive at every level.

Our mission is to unify the creative talents of the Mid-Atlantic region, ensuring that all facets of the fashion industry—from designers to tech innovators to business owners—can find the support they need. As we continue to advocate for legislation, develop talent, and position Maryland as a fashion hub, we aim to contribute to the creation of a sustainable, innovative, and inclusive fashion community.
